Before distribute a cover song, make sure that you have acquired the rights to do so. It is imperative that you get the proper permission (or eventually a license) from the copyright holder before submitting it to us.

If the cover features a public domain song, you may distribute it without a license. Be sure, however, to properly credit the authors/composers on the track.

If you are planning on distributing a cover song, please take note of the following points:

  • Please note that most Digital Music Services, such as iTunes and Spotify, do not accept soundalike covers. Make sure that the cover song you are submitting is sufficiently different from the original version.
  • Do not include the original artist’s name in the title or artist field.
  • Do not include the original artist’s photo on the cover artwork.
  • Make sure to choose the “cover” track type when creating your release’s tracks.
